Meet the Tudor Black Bay Chrono Dark Limited-Edition
Back to News & NoveltiesThe Tudor Black Bay Chrono Dark Limited-Edition is an all-black version of the standard Black Bay chronograph watch designed to celebrate Tudor’s partnership with New Zealand rugby team, All Blacks’ legacy. The company designed this version specifically to match the All Blacks’ famous jersey.
Tudor Black Bay Chrono Dark Limited-Edition expands on Tudor’s distinct and favored dive chronograph with a watch that oozes attitude and style. This intense, black on black Tudor watch has a Manufacture Caliber with a column wheel and vertical clutch. It features a characteristic matte finish on its satin-brushed steel bracelet and finished off with a black PVD-treated coating. Physical Vapor Deposition or PVD is a thin film technology developed by NASA for its space programs to bond with metals.
The Tudor Black Bay chronograph boasts a power reserve of 70 hours. The COSC-certified MT5813, which comes from Breitling 01 caliber, gives nearly 3 days of run time at 28,800vph and has a silicon hairspring that results in superb chronometric performance.
More than a beautiful watch to gaze upon, it’s also easy to read, with its readable and useful dials. It has two sub-dials displaying the going seconds and the chronograph displaying minutes as the clear date window balances the dial proficiently. The Tudor Black Bay Chrono Dark Limited-Edition has a fixed bezel tachymeter to give it additional functionality, as the depth rating printed in bright red illuminates the dial text. It looks sleek and sophisticated, but the sturdy pushers remind you that this is a rugged watch built for everyday activities.
The 41mm case ensures that the watch will catch people’s attention without being ostentatious. Like it’s standard, stainless steel counterpart model, the Tudor Black Bay Chrono Dark Limited-Edition is water-resistant up to 200-meters.
Compared to Past Models
It’s not a complete departure from the standard Black Bay Chrono Dark; the PVD coating makes this watch stand out, giving it a moody upgrade to fit the intensity of the All Blacks’ Haka opponents.
Tudor rarely ventures into the realm of creating limited edition timepieces. But to commemorate their partnership with the New Zealand Rugby Union team, they got creative with not only the design but the how they would limit the production of this watch. The limited production of this limited-edition Black Bay Chrono created just one unit for each team member to have ever played for the All Blacks. That’s currently 1,181 timepieces. The company engraved the case back with the watch’s production number and finished it in black PVD.
Rarely do watchmakers pull off black on black watches very well. Not only does Tudor Watches pull this off, but the company created a desirable sports watch that creates a sophisticated, slim look perfect for sports or everyday wear.
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono Dark Limited-Edition costs $5,925, just a bit more than the standard steel Black Bay Chrono.
